Metropolitan Family Service Gets Check

The Classic Wines Auction presented Metropolitan Family Service (MFS) with a check for $600,248 this week at a presentation ceremony downtown. This year’s auction raised nearly $3.2 million for five benefiting charities in Portland and Southwest Washington.

The money will be used by MFS to help provide:

After school academic and enrichment activities for 9,600 youth in low-income neighborhoods,

  • Financial education for 300 adults, including 140 working parents who also received low-interest car loans to help them access work,
  • Access to food for families in need through seven food pantry sites serving more than 28,000 people annually,
  • Classroom mentoring and reading instruction for 279 young students through AARP Experience Corps mentor teams, and
  • More than 260,000 healthy meals and snacks for students living in low-income communities.

The other four charities—New Avenues for Youth, Friends of the Children – Portland, YWCA Clark County and Randall Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel—will receive checks in the coming weeks.

Since its inception in 1982, the Classic Wines Auction has raised almost $37 million for children and families in the community. For more information about the Classic Wines Auction, call (503) 972-0194 or visit www.classicwinesauction.com
