The 2013 Portland Film Festival had over 30,000 participants with more than 83 films and 54 hours of screenings, workshops, events, networking. Over 70 filmmakers, cast and crew attended to help support independent film and celebrate the city. Portland Mayor Charlie Hales proclaimed, Portland as the City of Film during this year’s festival. On opening night the closure of NW 21st Avenue gave the over-capacity crowd room to roam to enjoy the performances of local aerial acrobatic company Pendulum in front of Cinema 21. The highlight of the festival was A Night with Chuck at the Bagdad Theatre, Chuck Palahniuk famed author of Fight Club read from his short story Zombies. The festival closed with a free outdoor screening on the lawn of The Fields park in the Pearl District.
