Joshua Christensen returns to this year’s FashioNXT runway for the second time. A contestant on Project Runway Season 9, we’ve seen him create ready-to-wear collections for both men and women. He currently resides in Los Angeles, and recently wrapped up two British television series, The Moaning of Life and An Idiot Abroad, which will be out this fall. We can’t wait to see what other goods he will produce!
You are premiering your Spring/Summer 2014 women’s collection at FashioNXT this year. Last year, you showed your men’s collection. Do you have a preference designing for one or the other?
I love designing my menswear. I think it offers a unique challenge, but I also think that being a designer means I can design for all people. I have really enjoyed working on a women’s collection and working with a new set of limitations and rules.
You are one of FIDM Los Angeles’ star alums, often appearing in their student programs. Is that your way of giving back to your alma mater? In what other ways are you reaching out?
I love teaching and offering up my experiences to those who are looking into working in fashion. I recently accepted a part-time teaching position for a private high school here in LA to open a new fashion program. I also love supporting charities and good causes, like the American Heart Association and the New F Word anti-bullying campaign.
This will be your second time showing at FashioNXT. What are you looking forward to most at this upcoming show?
I’m looking forward to outdoing myself this year and really showing people something new. I always feel like I have something to prove and something to give.
