Pearl Neighborhood News

Pearl Cleanup
Last month the PDNA hosted its largest Polish the Pearl; 116 people (including 20 local middle school students) turned out on a cloudy Saturday morning to clean up the streets. Volunteers picked up 1,066 lbs of trash and 455 lbs of recyclables. The district cleanup happens twice a year. Many thanks to our sponsors: MSI, Whole Foods, Legacy Good Samaritan, and SOLVE. Chipotle donated 75 burritos to our hungry volunteers.

Board New Members
Recently elected Reza Farhoodi, Toni Shemarya, Glenn Traeger, and Jan Valentine join PDNA board members Stanley Penkin, Bruce Levi, and Yasmine Foroud who renewed their terms to continue serving. Sara Hoeber and Andy Steinman applied to the board to be voted in in December, which will fill every seat, bringing the board to 20 members. Thank you everyone!

Friends of the Pearl
Concerned citizens are organizing to ensure ongoing safety, health, and livability in the Pearl. The Office of Neighborhood Involvement (ONI), will have a meeting on January 21st at the Ecotrust Building (721 NW 9th Ave). The meeting is open to all interested residents of the Pearl District.

Trash Can Sponsorship
If you look closely at the trashcans in the Pearl, there is a plaque indicating the sponsor. Civic minded businesses, residents, and organizations pay for the emptying of the 60 trashcans in our neighborhood; some sponsoring multiple units and/or multiple pick-ups per week by Recology. To become a sponsor for less than $20 per month email Bill Dolan at
